Oris Aquis Date

The Aquis collection has long been a cornerstone of the Oris catalog. Most brands specialize in something, with many focusing on diving or pilot’s watches. Oris falls firmly into the former category, with three collections of diving watches: the Oris Divers, Oris ProDiver, and the aforementioned Oris Aquis. The Oris Divers series reimagines vintage models, while ProDiver timepieces are for professionals who work in extreme underwater conditions. The Aquis collection falls somewhere in the middle. it contains a wide variety of watches in different colors and sizes. Other choices include whether you prefer a rubber strap or steel bracelet and a time-only watch or chronograph. The Aquis Date is the simplest model. This tidy diving watch features a black dial, steel bracelet, and a date display at 6 o’clock. The Aquis is timeless, affordable, and feels great on the wrist. It’s the perfect watch to take on your next diving vacation. What’s more, it’s sure to attract more than a few eyes, as it’s a somewhat rare sight “in the wild.”

Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare or Exceptional Timepieces

IWC Mark XVIII

IWC markets the Mark XVIII as heir to the legendary Mark 11. As you may already know, the British Ministry of Defence commissioned IWC (and Jaeger-LeCoultre) to build timepieces according to their specifications in 1948. The result was the Mark 11. It saw action on the wrist of Royal Air Force pilots and personnel starting in the late 40s. In 1994, IWC revisited the Mark series, introducing the Mark XII. This would pave the way for a line of new models leading us to our current topic of discussion, the IWC Mark XVIII (IW327001). While it may not be the Swiss brand’s most complicated timepiece, it is certainly among its most popular. This is likely due to its resemblance to the Mark 11. The Mark XVIII is decidedly modern, but clearly carries the DNA of its groundbreaking predecessor. Its stainless steel case is only 40 mm in diameter, making it a great choice for any wrist size. Thanks to its automatic movement, so you never need to worry about winding it by hand. Perhaps most important of all is that fact that it’s a watch from one of the industry’s most prestigious brands: IWC.

Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Your Money

Heuer Skipper 15640

Every Heuer chronograph from the 1960s and 70s is now considered an icon among the watch community. Their fans have included legendary race car drivers, rock stars, and Hollywood royalty. The Heuer Skipper is no exception. While it has no connection to a big name, its unconventional design has always drawn people to this special piece. For the most part, the Skipper looks just any other Heuer chronograph. Everything from the case and dial to the movements is typical Heuer. However, it’s the large 15-minute counter at 3 o’clock that gives this timepiece its name. Also known as a “regatta timer,” this subdial allows the wearer to keep track of the time until the regatta begins. If you’re unfamiliar with sailing competitions: Fifteen minutes before a race, there’s a warning sound. You would then start the timer so you can see how much time you have until the race truly begins. This allows you to get your ship into the right position for the start of the race. It doesn’t really matter that most Heuer Skippers are no longer fulfilling this purpose, as long as they are spreading joy to their owners.
