Star Wars-Themed Watches: These Timepieces Rule the Galaxy

With Star Wars: The Bad Batch premiering on Disney+ in early May, we thought it would be nice to do something a little different and explore which timepieces can bring out your inner Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. You might be surprised how many options you have.

Feeling drawn to the dark side? Oris offers a special Star Wars Darth Vader Limited Edition.

The Oris Star Wars Limited Edition Set

The first two watches today are sure to thrill any Star Wars fan. In 2019, Oris released the Star Wars Limited Edition Set in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and the United States. It consists of two absolutely amazing-looking timepieces. The first is the Oris Star Wars Darth Vader Limited Edition. This watch is based on the Oris ProDiver and looks like something Darth Vader himself would wear. This 49-mm beast features a black-coated titanium case with the Death Star and Imperial crest on the dial. A side profile of Darth Vader’s iconic helmet emblazons the case back. The watch had a limited production run of 250 pieces and was only available in combination with…

…the Oris Star Wars Stormtrooper Limited Edition. This 43.5-mm stainless steel timepiece is a modified Oris Aquis diver. Its black dial also features the Death Star and a white Imperial crest, all of which is surrounded by a black and white bezel. The watch comes on a comfortable stainless steel bracelet. An engraving of a Stormtrooper helmet features prominently on the case back. This watch was limited to 1,300 pieces and sold separately or combined with the Oris Star Wars Darth Vader Limited Edition. At release, the pair of watches had an official price of $6,900 while the single Stormtrooper model demanded $2,700 solo.

The Kross Studio Death Star Ultimate Collector Set

If you’re looking for something exclusive and extreme, the Kross Studio Death Star Ultimate Collector Set is definitely worth checking out. Kross Studio is a Swiss manufacturer and designer. Four of its five founders previously worked at Romain Jerome, a brand known for its highly conceptual and even experimental timepieces. This new Kross Studio set is truly next-level: It consists of multiple objects that make for a truly stunning collector set, of which the highlight is the Death Star Tourbillon watch.

The Death Star Tourbillon features a 45-mm grade 5 black DLC-coated titanium case. On the back, you’ll find the Star Wars logo alongside Aurebesh script (a writing system used in the Star Wars universe). Inside the case, the tourbillon, which resembles the top half of the Death Star, hovers above the center of the dial. This completes one full rotation in precisely 60 seconds. For the time, Kross Studio uses an hour hand shaped like an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer and a minute hand shaped like a Super-Class Star Destroyer, one of the Empire’s most powerful spacecraft. It’s a work of art Star Wars fans are sure to love.

The packaging for this watch is another achievement. It comes in an almost 4-foot long, half-scale replica of the armored angular orange crates the Empire uses to store and transport kyber crystals. These precious and powerful crystals are crucial for the franchise’s famous lightsabers, as well as the Death Star superweapon that can destroy entire planets. The crate is split into nine storage units, including three removable capsules. One contains the Death Star Tourbillon watch itself, another carries two additional straps, and a third holds an authentic Star Wars kyber crystal prop used in the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Fans can use the crate’s six other units to store their own collectibles and memorabilia from the Star Wars universe. While any Star Wars collector would love to get their hands on this set, they will have to have some deep pockets: Kross Studio only produced ten of these collector sets, each going for a staggering $150,000.

The Citizen Star Wars Watch Collection

For those looking for something more affordable, the Japanese brand Citizen has created an entire Star Wars collection in collaboration with Lucasfilm. When watch designer Donell Hutson was asked to create these timepieces, he could draw his inspiration from his lifelong fascination and love for Star Wars, with heroes like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo taking on the likes of Darth Vader and Boba Fett.

The collection features several franchise favorites, including R2-D2, Princess Leia, Han Solo, a Stormtrooper, and the Millennium Falcon. Perhaps the quirkiest of them are the blocky Rebel Pilot and Trench Run models inspired by their original Citizen analog-digital forerunners from the 1980s. Another 13 models, all powered by Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology, round off this collection. Star Wars fans are going to love the great selection of fun looks featured with these watches. Official list prices for the Citizen Star Wars collection start at $175 for the R2-D2 model and go up to $375 for the Trench Run watch. Act quickly if you’d like to get your hands on one of these limited-edition releases.

Black Venom Rolex Submariner Star Wars Limited Edition

Although Rolex is famous for producing its watches in limited numbers, it’s unheard of for the Swiss brand to make official limited editions, let alone one done with another partner. Over the years, however, we have seen the occasional Rolex modified by other companies, such as the Black Venom Rolex Submariner Star Wars Limited Edition.

This watch is based on the Rolex Submariner ref. 116610 and modified by the Italian watch customizers Black Venom. The stainless steel case and bracelet feature a black DLC coating, and famous Star Wars characters have replaced the regular indices on the dial. The Submariner wording and seconds hand are colored red for an extra splash of color. What you end up with is a stealthy Star Wars version of the Submariner. While some might howl that it’s blasphemy to modify a Rolex, others will love how this timepiece combines their favorite watch brand with the beloved movie franchise. Black Venom still has three of the ten copies available for Star Wars fans interested in purchasing one. The price for this uniquely modified Rolex Submariner sits around $21,500.
